Privacy Policy
GardenGar.com provides this Privacy Policy to explain how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the website located at https://gardengar.com (the “Site”). This policy applies only to the GardenGar Site and to communications we send about the Site.
It is not necessary to create an account or provide personally identifiable information to read articles on GardenGar. If you choose to email us, subscribe to a newsletter, comment, or interact with advertising, additional information may be processed as described below.
GardenGar is a new publication. We may display ordinary advertising as the Site grows. This policy describes advertising in general terms — not a named ad network — so you know what to expect if and when ads appear. If we later join a specific advertising partner that requires extra disclosure, we will update this policy.
Questions: staff@gardengar.com.
1. Who Is Responsible
The operator of gardengar.com, based in Pakistan, is the data controller (or “business,” under California law) for personal information collected through the Site. You can reach us at staff@gardengar.com. For a postal address, email that same address and we will provide it.
We use service providers that process information on our behalf, including website hosting, content delivery, analytics, and email. If we run ads, advertising partners described in this policy may also process information.
2. Information We Collect
Information you choose to give us
You can browse the Site without providing your name. We may collect information you volunteer, including:
- Email correspondence. If you contact us at staff@gardengar.com or another published address, we may keep your email address, the content of your message, and our reply so we can respond and keep a business record.
- Newsletter signup (if offered). Email address, signup source, approximate location derived from IP, and engagement data such as opens and clicks.
- Comments or submissions (if offered). Display name, email, IP address, and the text or images you submit.
- Contest or survey entries (if offered). The fields on the entry form.
- Privacy or rights requests. Information needed to verify and fulfill your request.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, our servers and partners automatically record log and device data, which may include:
- IP address, approximate location (city/region/country), and internet service provider.
- Browser type and version, device type, operating system, language, and screen size.
- Referring URL, pages viewed, dates and times, time on page, and clickstream.
- Cookie identifiers and, if ads are shown, mobile advertising identifiers. If you have provided an email and an advertising partner hashes it for matching, that hashed email may be processed.
- Information about how advertisements were displayed or clicked, if ads are shown.
Information we do not intentionally collect
We do not ask for Social Security numbers, payment card numbers, precise GPS, biometric identifiers, or government ID to use the Site. Please do not send those in email. If you include sensitive information in a message, we will treat it as ordinary correspondence and may not be able to apply heightened security to it.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the Site and our publishing business.
- Measure readership, popular articles, and technical performance.
- Respond to your messages and requests.
- Send newsletters or updates you requested, and measure whether they were opened.
- Display and measure advertising, including interest-based advertising as described below, if and when we run ads.
- Detect fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Use.
- Comply with law, enforce our rights, and protect readers, contributors, and the public.
- Support a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, if that occurs.
We do not use GardenGar Content or reader emails to train a public generative-AI model as a substitute for human writing. See our Editorial Policies on human authorship.
4. Cookies, Pixels, and Similar Technologies
Like most websites, GardenGar uses cookies, pixels, tags, and local storage (“cookies”) to operate the Site, understand traffic, and remember your preferences. If we display ads, cookies may also support advertising.
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. A pixel is a small image or code that records when a page or email was opened. We may use:
- Session cookies, which typically expire when you close your browser, to support basic features and understand a single visit.
- Persistent cookies, which remain for a set period, including for frequency-capping so you do not see the same article or ad excessively.
- Analytics cookies from providers such as Google Analytics.
- Advertising cookies and tags, which may be first-party or third-party, if and when we display ads.
You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies or to delete them. Blocking cookies may limit features of the Site. Rejecting advertising cookies does not mean you will see no ads; you will still see ads that are less personalized.
For more about cookies generally, see https://www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/.
5. Analytics
We may use analytics services to understand aggregate use of the Site. These may include Google Analytics and tools provided by our host or content-delivery network.
Google Analytics, if used, uses cookies to collect information such as how often users visit the Site and which pages they visit. Google’s practices are described at https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
We may replace or add analytics providers. This policy will be updated when our practices change in a material way.
6. Advertising
GardenGar is a new website. We may display ordinary third-party advertising as the Site grows. These policies do not name a specific advertising network. If we later work with a named partner that requires extra disclosure, we will update this policy.
You do not need to give us your name to read articles. If ads appear, advertisers and the companies that serve ads may receive log data and may set cookies on your device. GardenGar does not control third-party advertiser technologies. Their practices are covered by their own policies.
How advertising may work
Ads on the Site may be contextual (based on the page you are reading) or interest-based (based on browsing activity over time). Interest-based ads often use first-party cookies created by gardengar.com and third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons, and similar technologies (together, “Tags”) created by other companies.
If personalized ads are served, the following data may be collected using a cookie or similar technology: IP address; operating system type and version; device type; language of the website; web browser type; and email in hashed form if you have given us an email address.
Advertising companies may link that data to other information they have independently collected, including advertising IDs, in order to show ads across websites, devices, browsers, and apps. That data can include usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions with ads and websites, coarse geolocation, traffic data, and referral source. They may also create unique IDs and audience segments.
Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Site. Rejecting advertising cookies does not mean you will see no ads; you may still see ads that are less personalized.
Industry opt-outs
If you would like more information about interest-based advertising and to opt out of much of this data collection, visit the Network Advertising Initiative at https://thenai.org/opt-out/ and https://optout.networkadvertising.org/, and the Digital Advertising Alliance at https://optout.aboutads.info/. You may download the AppChoices app at https://youradchoices.com/appchoices to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the advertising controls on your mobile device.
7. Your Advertising Choices
You can limit interest-based advertising through:
- Browser cookie controls and the opt-out pages linked above (NAI, DAA, AppChoices).
- Your device’s tracking or advertising settings (for example, “Limit Ad Tracking” or “Opt out of Ads Personalization”).
- The Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Any cookie-consent or “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” tool we display on the Site, if available in your region.
Opt-outs are often browser- and device-specific. If you clear cookies, you may need to opt out again. Industry opt-outs do not block all ads.
8. How We Share Information
We share information in these situations:
- Service providers. Hosting, CDN, analytics, email, security, and similar vendors that process information on our instructions.
- Advertising partners. If we display ads, advertising, measurement, or similar partners that help us serve or measure those ads, as described in this policy.
- Licensing counterparties. If you or a third party asks to reuse GardenGar content, we may share the minimum information needed to handle that request.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information to government or law-enforcement officials or to private parties when we believe it is necessary or appropriate to respond to claims or legal process (including subpoenas), to protect the property and rights of GardenGar or a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, to prevent illegal, unethical, or legally actionable activity, or to comply with the law.
- Business transfers. If all or part of GardenGar’s assets are acquired by or merged with another entity, we will share with that entity some or all of the information collected through the Site.
- With your direction. For example, if you ask us to send a message to someone else.
We do not sell mailing lists of our readers’ names. Please see the California section regarding the CCPA meaning of “sell” and “share,” which can include advertising cookies.
9. Retention
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by law.
Server logs are typically rotated on a rolling basis. Email correspondence is kept as a business record for so long as reasonably needed to handle the conversation and related claims. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to each provider’s settings and policies. If you request deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal information we control, except where we must keep it (for example, to complete a transaction, detect fraud, or comply with law).
10. Security
We use commercially reasonable measures appropriate to the nature of a publishing website — including HTTPS — to protect the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Because much of the Site can be used without an account, we do not maintain a consumer login vault of passwords.
You are responsible for the security of devices and email accounts you use to contact us. Do not send payment-card numbers or government ID to staff@gardengar.com.
11. International Visitors
The Site is operated from Pakistan. Hosting, content-delivery, and analytics partners may be located in the United States, the European Union, and other countries. If we run ads, advertising partners may be located in those countries as well. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another region with data-transfer rules, your information may be processed in Pakistan, the United States, and other countries, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
Where required, we rely on appropriate transfer mechanisms (such as standard contractual clauses used by our providers) and on the fact that processing is necessary to provide the Site you requested or is in our legitimate interests in operating a global publication, balanced against your rights.
12. Pakistan
GardenGar is operated from Pakistan. We handle personal information in line with applicable Pakistani law, including the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA) where it applies, and any personal-data protection rules in force.
If you are in Pakistan and want to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, email staff@gardengar.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We may need to verify that the request comes from you.
We may disclose information when Pakistani law, a court, or a lawful request from a competent authority requires it, or to protect the Site, our readers, or the public.
13. Privacy Rights — EEA, UK, and Similar Laws
If the GDPR, UK GDPR, or a similar law applies to you, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Erase data in certain circumstances.
- Restrict or object to certain processing, including processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
- Receive a portable copy of data you provided.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting earlier processing.
- Lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
Our legal bases include: performance of a contract (responding to a request you send); consent (newsletters, non-essential cookies where a consent banner is required); legitimate interests (operating, securing, and measuring a publishing site, and showing advertising to keep the Site free to read); and legal obligation.
To exercise these rights, email staff@gardengar.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We may need to verify your request. You will not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
14. U.S. State Privacy Rights (including California)
Residents of California and of other U.S. states with consumer privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, and others as they come into force) may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of personal information, and to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising.
Categories of personal information we collect, as those laws describe them, typically include: identifiers (email address you volunteer; IP address and cookie IDs collected automatically); internet or electronic-network activity (browsing on the Site); geolocation at a coarse level derived from IP; and, if we run ads, inferences used by advertising partners to create segments. We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information such as precise geolocation, account log-in combined with password, or government ID.
Sources: you, your device, and analytics partners, and advertising partners if we run ads. Purposes: those listed in “How We Use Information.” Recipients: service providers, analytics providers, professional advisors, authorities as required by law, and advertising networks if we use them.
“Sale” and “sharing”
GardenGar does not sell lists of reader names for money. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, “sale” and “share” can include making identifiers available to third-party advertising partners through cookies so they can show you ads. To the extent that is a sale or share, you may opt out using the industry tools listed above, your browser’s global privacy control if we detect and honor it, and any “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link on the Site.
We do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.
How to submit a request
Email staff@gardengar.com with the subject “CCPA Request” or “State Privacy Request.” Tell us which right you want to exercise. We will verify using the email address and information reasonably needed to confirm it is you. You may use an authorized agent as the law allows; we will need proof of authorization.
We will respond within the time the applicable law requires, generally 45 days for California, with an extension when reasonably necessary.
We will not deny goods or services, charge a different price, or provide a different level of quality because you exercised a privacy right, except as the law allows (for example, if the difference is reasonably related to the value of the data).
15. Do Not Track
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals. There is no common industry standard for responding to DNT. GardenGar does not currently alter its practices solely because of a DNT signal. We may honor a legally defined Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as an opt-out of sale/sharing where required. Third-party advertisers may still collect information across sites as described in their policies. Learn more at http://allaboutdnt.com/.
16. Children
The Site is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13, and we do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers under 16.
If a parent or guardian becomes aware that a child has provided GardenGar with personally identifiable information without consent, please contact staff@gardengar.com. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personally identifiable information, we will delete it from our files except where we are required to keep a record of the deletion request.
17. Links to Other Sites
The Site may contain links to other websites operated by us or by third parties. Linked Sites may place their own cookies, collect data, or solicit personal information. This Privacy Policy addresses only information GardenGar collects through the Site. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of every site you visit.
18. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may change this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be announced with a site notice. Your continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the revised policy, to the extent permitted by law. If a change requires consent, we will ask for it.
